The Notorious B I G, aka “Bigs,” is a 2018 BLACK stallion by NCHA & NRCHA million-dollar sire, CD Lights. He is out of PRCA Heel Horse of the Year, DT Sugar Chex Whiz by Shiners Lena Chex.
Bred by the renowned Dixon Flowers Rope Horses and owners of “Sugar,” Bigs was a standout horse from day one. He was purchased by Southern Ranches, Waxahachie, Texas, as a 2-year-old and started by Tyson Benson. As his training progressed and the inquiries began flooding in, it seemed only fitting to send him to Billie Jack Saebans for rope horse training. Billie Jack and Bigs’ dam were an iconic team in the rope horse world that went on to claim the 2019 PRCA Heel Horse of Year Award. Anyone who knows rope horses knows “Sugar.” Prior to Saebans success with her and their NFR performance, Sugar was a rope horse extraordinaire under the guidance of JD Yates who piloted her to the AQHA Reserve Champion Super Horse title, Reserve High Point Junior Horse AND a World Champion Junior Tie Down title.
Both CD Lights, who needs no introduction, and his dam DT Sugar Chex Whiz were known not only for their exquisite athletic ability, but also their impeccable dispositions. They have passed both traits on to Bigs. While Bigs is a stunning jet black stallion, the decision to breed him was not based solely on that. One of his best qualities is his kind and gentle disposition. He is an incredible athlete, but never gets rattled. He’s hauled and ridden with mares and can go straight from the breeding barn to perform in a show with zero interference. Secondly, the amount of bone and structure that he has and is passing on to his foals has become a rarity in the performance horse world. At 14.3 hands, he is the perfect height for any cross. His breeding lends itself to unlimited avenues as a sire.
Bigs’ first foal crop arrived in 2022, and all have been stamped with so many of his sought after qualities, including that baby doll head.
