Black Maternal Sibling To Standout $150,000 earner Cover Girrl to Sell at Western Bloodstock Sale

You rarely get to see the special ones offered to the public. Solid female line? Check. Exceptional mover? Done. By the leading sire in nearly all western disciplines for 2023? Also Done.

The cherry on top? She's a black filly.

This Saturday, Jeff Simpson is offering one of his best to the public in the Western Bloodstock Preferred Breeders Sale. The black filly, hip number 7081, is sired by Metallic Cat, and out of the great producer Scoot A Lil Closer.

Coming from great parentage, the names backing Lil Sassy Lena, are no strangers to cashing in checks at all levels. Her dam, Scoot A Lil Closer is rapidly making her name known in the cutting industry as more than just a performer. In the arena, the bay mare sired by Smart Lil Scoot and out of the $1.3 Million dollar producer Miss Echo Wood, earned over $67,000. As of November 2023, her foals have amassed close to half a million in earnings, including the standout mares Scantly Clad ( LTE $181,526 ) and Cover Girrl ( LTE $150,863 ).

The '22 Black filly, Lil Sassy Lena, is a FULL sister to Scantly Clad, who was piloted by Ty Moore to multiple Derby Championships, Futurity Finalist titles, and lifetime earnings of over $181,000.

Lil Sassy Lena

The Las Vegas lights shined down on Scoot A Lil Closer, when her 2020 filly by the name of Cover Girrl hit the show pen for the PCCHA Super Futurity. All eyes were on the red roan filly by Metallic Cat when Lloyd Cox and her laid down a 223 to tie with Russ Westfall and Meet Me In Laguna, a face off that would have everyone on the edge of their seats... and one that would immediately prove the try and heart the young mare had.

Walking under the bright arena lights to make one finals run is a big enough feat for any three year old. But, to enter that arena not just once - but TWICE - and best their first score is an incredible accomplishment. Under the guidance of $11 Million Dollar rider Lloyd Cox, Cover Girrl showed up to mark a 223.5 to win the tie-breaker and take home the $130,000 check.

This Saturday, Hip No. 7081 Lil Sassy Lena, a full sister to Sanctly Clad and maternal sister to Cover Girrl, is set to sell on the last day of the Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales. This presents the unique opportunity for all perspective buyers to buy a BLACK filly with an exceptional black-type pedigree that will one day make her a great asset for someone's breeding program.
