Metallic Cattack: The Trendsetter

A rising star among sires, Metallic Cattack—affectionately known as “TicTac”—stands as one of the most influential stallions at Solo Select Horses.

Metallic Cattack—the double-registered 2015 red roan son of Metallic Cat out of Quiolena by CD Olena—is an APHA World Champion in the junior tie-down roping with over $30,000 in earnings. Tictac sold at the NCHA sale as a 2-year-old, but stayed in training with Wes Ashlock before he became one of the first stallions at Solo Select, purchased by Melanie Smith in 2019.

“He is pretty, bred great, correct, good-minded, panel clean and has some size to him," Smith said. "Wes Ashlock told me what a great horse he was, and that sealed it for me.”

His first foal crop hit the ground in 2021 and quickly displayed not only levels of versatility that set them apart in the arena, but also the same foundation that made Tictac one of Solo's flagship stallions.

"Every time I walk past him, I think, 'I don’t think he has any idea that this was built because of him—and for him.'" — Dustin Price, Solo Select Stallion Manager

Proven Across Disciplines

"We called Metallic Cattack 'the Trendsetter' because he was one of the first stallions we really pushed to cross disciplines,” Smith said.

Tictac had earned $27,717 in the cutting with Ashlock who described his time riding him as nothing short of enjoyable.

"There was never a job I did on that horse that I did not enjoy doing just because he was just a pleasure to ride," Ashlock said.

Tictac's transition to the roping pen with Cody McCartney proved just how versatile he could be, securing his APHA World Champion title in the junior tie-down roping.

"Just seeing him transition over into a different sport and thriving, it was really neat to see because I think that's one thing that he's really good at," Ashlock said.

A Rising Sire of Champions

Metallic Cattack has sired multiple money-earning offspring across various disciplines with just one foal crop of show age, and they are just getting started.

One standout example of his early crop’s success is the gelding “Tom Cats R Popular” owned by Chance Thiessen, who describes him as one of the most talented horses he has ever swung a leg over, with an LTE of $57,762. The duo had a great year in the roping pen, winning two champion titles at the Gold Buckle Futurities and another at the Solo Select Stallion Incentive Futurity.

"These early wins aren’t just one-offs; they’re meaningful indicators that his offspring are translating pedigree into performance," Smith said. "He has foals out of everything from open cutting futurity finalists to graded stakes-winning race mares. Now, five years later, we are seeing those foals pop up across all disciplines, which is so exciting.”

Excitement also surrounds the continued emergence of younger prospects from Metallic Cattack, including Kryptonitte, an offspring of Metallic Cattack out of Fun N Fancy Free. Set to enter the roping pen as part of the Relentless Remuda's show string for 2026.

Growing Demand For Metallic Cattack Offspring

The 2023 red roan stallion Free Ain’t Cheap (Metallic Cattack x Fun N Fancy Free, by Peptoboonsmal) further underscored Tictac's offspring's market confidence when he brought $165,000 at the 2025 Old West Rope Horse Sale. A maternal sibling to the standout heel horse Pride And Joyy “Kilo,” Free Ain’t Cheap represents both proven performance bloodlines and the growing demand for Metallic Cattack offspring, reinforcing the consistency of his crosses and their appeal among performance-horse buyers.

The racehorse crosses have already averaged $25,000 in previous Solo Select sales, proving marketability amongst his offspring and broad versatility in mare compatibility.

Metallic Cattack has laid a foundation that makes him attractive not only as a performer but now as a breeding stallion with the look, mind, and proven ability to influence the next generation of rope and cow horse prospects. His offspring are demonstrating the kind of versatility and competitive success that set a sire apart in today’s performance horse market. We are excited to see his influence grow as 2026 foals are being born.
