How Select Genes Pricing Works

Select Genes sells embryos out of elite donor mares, not the mares. Pick the mare, pick the stallion, and our lab makes the embryo. Here is exactly what it costs, and exactly when you pay it.

After the Aspiration

The guarantee, and what happens next

Every aspiration is covered by our viable-embryo guarantee. Your first embryo counts once a licensed vet confirms the recipient mare 55 days in foal.

Insurance is available once she is confirmed in foal at that 55-day check.

After confirmation, you assume responsibility for the pregnancy. Take the recipient mare home, or leave her with us for full care through foaling.

You're listed as the breeder of record for the foal. Register, market, and train from day one. It's 100% yours.

Good to Know

Pricing questions, answered

What am I actually buying?

An embryo, a foal, out of the mare. Not the mare. She stays with her owner; the foal is 100% yours.

What does the price on each mare mean?

Her Custom ICSI Aspiration: one aspiration cycle with the stallion you choose, first embryo included.

What if I get more than one embryo?

They're yours. Each extra one is half her listed price, billed only if it produces a live foal. You also pay the $850 lab production fee for every embryo produced, whether or not it becomes a foal.

What if I get zero embryos?

Re-aspirate the same mare or a different one, even this season, for just the $2,000 chute fee. Or put your purchase price toward any other mare in the program.

Do I need my own recipient mare?

No. Our recipient herd of 2,500-plus mares carries your foal. A licensed vet confirms the pregnancy at 55 days.

Is there a fee for each embryo the lab produces?

Yes, $850 per embryo. It's charged for every embryo the lab produces, whether or not that embryo ever becomes a live foal.

Can I insure the pregnancy?

Yes, once she's confirmed in foal at the 55-day check.

Who is listed as the foal's breeder?

You are. You're listed as the breeder of record.

What happens to the recipient mare after she's confirmed in foal?

Your choice. Take her home, or leave her with Solo Select for full care through foaling.

What's not included?

The stallion's breeding fee and recipient-mare costs (implantation and lease). Both vary; we'll walk you through them before you commit.
