From Solo Select to Champion: Hallle Berry Wins 2025 Oil Can Classic

From Solo Select to Champion: Hallle Berry Wins 2025 Oil Can Classic

Hallle Berry and Billie Jack Saebens

Friday, April 26th, at the Oil Can Classic, Billie Jack Saebens piloted Hallle Berry to an impressive Pre Futurity Heeling win, posting a 902.96 composite score and banking a $10,430 paycheck.

Hallle Berry—a striking red roan mare by Metallic Cat and out of One Sparking Time—has been turning heads since long before her Oil Can Classic success. After making waves earlier this year in Arizona at the Royal Crown, the talented mare reminded the roping world once again that she’s the real deal.

Hallle Berry was born and raised at Solo Select, where she was owned by Ty Smith until selling at the NRCHA Futurity Sale as a yearling. The pairing was magic: the $77 million sire Metallic Cat bred to One Sparking Time, a daughter of One Time Pepto — a combination that would be repeated time and again.

One Sparking Time, now owned by Jake Matthews, and enrolled in the Select Genes program— is considered one of the most sought-after mares on the property.

Hallle Berry was started by Tyson Benson, who laid the foundation for her future. When Shane and Jessica Boston purchased her, they quickly recognized her potential in the roping pen, ultimately placing her in the skilled hands of Billie Jack Saebens.

“This filly was special from day one,” said Ty Smith of Solo Select Horses. “She was part of the very beginning of what would eventually become Solo Select’s Sale Fitting Program. Her sale was monumental, and now it’s exciting to see these horses we believed in back then starting to compete—and win.”

First stepping into the spotlight at the 2022 Western Bloodstock NCHA Sale, Hallle Berry sold for $100,000—a figure that raised eyebrows at the time and hinted at the potential just waiting to unfold.

Now, under the expert hand of Saebens, she’s proving that early promise was no hype. With the win at the Oil Can Classic, Hallle Berry added another major accolade to her growing resume—showcasing exactly what Solo Select strives for: the very best, whether we’re selling through our own sales or offering horses in outside sales. From Solo Select—to Champion.

Meteles Cat Offspring Show Up To Play.

Teles About Glory, a 2021 bay roan mare by Meteles Cat, delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Oil Can Classic Pre Futurity. Piloted by Clyde Bolejack, the talented mare clocked a 227.31 to win Round 2 of the Pre Futurity Heeling, bringing home a $1,600 paycheck. Teles About Glory is owned by Long Eleven Remuda LLC.

Their momentum didn’t stop there. Bolejack and Teles About Glory made a triumphant return to the winner’s circle in Round 3, capturing the Intermediate Pre Futurity Heeling Championship with a composite score of 674.01—adding another $6,375 to their weekend earnings.

Teles About Glory wasn't the only Meteles Cat offspring in Ardmore. In the Futurity Heeling, Hunter Koch and Rocko, owned by JD and Lindsey Mcquire, laid down an 223-point run in Round 1.

The consistent success of Meteles Cat foals speaks volumes about their versatility, athleticism, and heart. Known for producing offspring with incredible speed, cow sense, and an innate ability to read a steer, Meteles Cat has quietly become one of the industry's best kept secrets for producing prospects that can compete—and win—at all levels.

If the 2025 Oil Can Classic is any indication, the future is bright for the Meteles Cat dynasty—and for anyone lucky enough to be swinging a leg over one.

Meteles Cat’s books are still open for 2025—and now, there’s even more reason to breed to him. His future foals are eligible for the Solo Select Stallion Incentive, one of the most lucrative programs in the rope horse industry today. Designed to reward and elevate the very best, the Solo Select Stallion Incentive offers added money exclusively for offspring of enrolled stallions. In 2025 alone, the incentive payout has already reached $348,000—and it's still climbing.
