From Solo Select Yearling Sale to $100,000 High-Seller: Cuff It Tops Western Bloodstock 2-Year-Old Snaffle Bit Futurity Sale for Ramos Remuda

FORT WORTH, Texas — October 23, 2026 — Just a year after Jaime Ramos purchased Cuff It as a yearling at the Solo Select October sale, the mare walked out of Watt Arena as a high-seller at the Western Bloodstock Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales, bringing $100,000 during the Select 2-Year-Old session on Friday.

The 2024 sorrel mare by Stevie Rey Von and out of Select Genes mare Shiners Tuff Chic was consigned as Hip 1006 by Jaime Ramos's Ramos Remuda LLC, with trainer Ty Benson acting as agent. Her sale tops off an inspiring collaboration among major industry players.
Buyers will have another chance at this pedigree on Saturday. Jus My Type, a 2025 red roan stallion and Cuff It’s full brother, sells as Hip 3102 in the Select Yearling & Broodmare Sale, consigned by Solo Select Horses as agent for Bill Barnes.

Solo Select Sale Graduate, in Training with Benson the Next Day
Ramos purchased the filly at Solo Select's October sale on the recommendation of the Solo team and sent her directly to Tyson Benson—one of the premier 2-year-old trainers in the western performance industry. Benson started her that November and took a liking to her right away.
"She was a very, very good-minded, kind mare—moved really well and was very simple to start," Benson said. "A little bit spicy, but I think that's what makes her good.""She has a lot of feel and was a handful at the beginning, but to me, those are usually the best ones," he added. "Once you get all that energy contained, you really have something."

Quite the Pedigree
Cuff It's dam has a proven track record of producing winners in the show pen. Shiners Tuff Chic (by Shiners Voodoo Dr) earned $34,982 and 34.5 AQHA points, finishing fifth in the AQHA High Point Junior Cutting and fourth in the AQHA High Point Open Cutting Mare standings. She was also Reserve Champion of the Reno RCH Intermediate Open Futurity and Champion of the Limited Open Futurity.
Her first foal to show is already performing at a high level. My Chic Hood, a 2023 mare by Metallic Cat, has earned $25,646 as a 3-year-old under Benson. She won the SRCHA Intermediate Open Futurity Championship and split third in the Open. On Friday afternoon, Benson will show her down the fence in the Intermediate Open finals at the Snaffle Bit Futurity.

The second dam’s record is equally impressive. My Boots Are Tuff (by legendary sire Woody Be Tuff) earned $31,828 and 62 AQHA points. Her titles include AQHA VRH World All-Around Open Champion and NRCHA World Limited Open Hackamore Champion. She has produced eight money-earners totaling $539,276, including $281,140-earner My Boots Are Royal and NRCHA World's Greatest Horseman Champion Seven S Tuff Boots.
Cuff It's sire, the renowned Stevie Rey Von, is an NCHA Open Futurity Champion and AQHA World Champion Junior Cutting Horse. He has sired 881 money-earners who have accumulated nearly $30.6 million, including NRCHA Open Futurity Champion Life By The Drop.
A Story That Started in the Roping Pen
Ramos entered the industry through roping, which is how he and Benson first connected. At the 2025 Old West sale in Utah, Ramos purchased Free Aint Cheap—a horse Benson had trained and consigned through Relentless Remuda and Solo Select.

Cuff It led them down a different path, illustrating a degree of adaptability that Benson believes newcomers to the business can learn from."This is a great lesson for people coming into the industry and buying yearlings from Solo or Western Bloodstock: be adaptable," Benson said. "Jaime is 100% focused on roping, which is why he got started. But this filly was a much better fit as a snaffle bit prospect than a rope horse. It came down to matching our goals with the horse in front of us and putting her in the best position to succeed."
Ramos noted that reined cow horse events have always appealed to him."That's why we explored this avenue, and it worked out," he said. "It’s been a complete start-to-finish process."
A Bright Road Ahead
Managing a construction business alongside a full cow-calf operation leaves Ramos with little free time. "There isn't much time left to play in the arena," he said. Instead, he has focused his efforts on breeding in partnership with Solo Select." It's been a great experience, and today was a rewarding milestone after a couple of years of involvement," Ramos said.
"Breeding with Solo and having Ty train for us has been amazing. He's the man."

Ramos currently has 11 foals on the ground—all Riata Buckle–eligible—and has already secured breedings for next year. Two fillies are set to enter training as 2-year-olds next season: one by Metallic Casanova and another by The Darkk Side.
"I'm looking forward to seeing what we produce," Ramos said. Has the winner's circle seen the last of Ramos Remuda?
"No," Ramos said. "We're just getting started."
