$173K-Earning Playgun Daughter Play Corn to Sell in Thanksgiving Select Online Sale

Playgun's undeniable legacy has produced over $10 million in offspring earnings, and he still boasts a reputation for being one of the most desirable broodmare sires in the industry.

It's getting hard to find the prolific Playgun daughters who were winners in their time, but Select Horse Sales is giving the public the opportunity to purchase the $173,000-earning gray mare Play Corn, who sells with three of her colts and two embryos by world-class stallions Thanksgiving Day 2023 in The Select Online Sale.

Out of Bobcorn, a daughter of Bob Acre Doc, Play Corn won $173,277 in her National Cutting Horse Association career, and her foals have earned $229,513 so far. Her top performer is a gelding by Smooth As A Cat named PlaySomethingSmooth, who won $74,731 in his NCHA career. Play Corn's son won the Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity in 2021 and the Reno Benny Guitron Memorial Open Hackamore in 2023.

"The Playgun horses are hearty, tough and talented," Ty Smith, CEO of Solo Select, said. "There's an appreciation for these colts in the market, no matter if they go into the cow horse or the cutting. Play Corn is the most significant daughter of Playgun on the market, and it's our privilege to offer her. We have loved this mare ever since we bought her 2018 colt, Republicat, at the Yearling Sale in 2019. He's been a winner with Nick Dowers, and we expect to see more of Play Corn's colts come up in the winners circle over the next few years."

Another Playgun daughter—the 2022 palomino filly Calamiity Jane—was the high seller at the annual Select Yearling Sale Oct. 15, 2023, bringing a massive $122,500 in the exclusive online sale.

"The chance to offer a mare and her offspring like this, on the heels of selling a horse like Calamiity Jane, is something that doesn't happen very often," Melanie Smith, Solo Select's founder, said. "We didn't plan this, but our team makes every effort to offer The Very Best in every sale. So sometimes, we get chances like this for our customers."

"Play Corn has been a producer of some really nice horses, and she's a color thrower," Play Corn owner Jamie Nail added. "I tracked down that mare when I couldn't get Republicat bought as a colt, so I went and bought the factory. This mare's colts have a lot of intelligence, good bone, good color, good conformation and they're very trainable. They cross good on all these Cats and all these new studs that are out there."

“He’s a standout for sure," Nick Dowers told Quarter Horse News_ _after his Reno win on the Play Corn son Republicat. "He’s really pretty [and I] bought him to keep him. I really like him, and I want to be able to show him for a long time."

The Thanksgiving Sale kicks off at 8 a.m. CT Nov. 26, 2023, closing at 5 p.m. CT the same day, only at bid.theselectonline.com.
