Solo Select Makes Its Mark at Ruidoso 2024

Solo Select’s debut at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in August 2024 grossed nearly $4 million, with an average price of $78,884 per horse, including 14 yearlings selling for over $100,000. Solo’s top seller, “A Tres of Dynasty,” fetched $300,000 and led a wave of high-end consignments that defined the ranch’s arrival in the market.

Of that set of horses, three went on to become All American Futurity G1 finalists in 2025: Rovos Rail, Dee Favorite Tacha, and Lethal Lobo.

About the All‑American Finalists

Dee Favorite Tacha

A standout from the start, this Dulce Sin Tacha colt was the fastest Day 2 qualifier for the $1 million Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, outpacing 138 entries.  Bred by The Mixer Ranch and sold by Solo Select for just $25,000, he turned heads with his raw speed, professional style, and a dominant 1¼-length victory.

Lethal Lobo

A powerful Favorite Cartel colt out of Lethal Delight, from the stellar P. K. Thomas - Miss Lethal female family, clinched his spot in the All American Futurity in the final Day 2 trial—highlighting the depth of quality in Solo Select’s first-ever crop. His dam is believed to be the only mare to have produced three individual All-American Futurity G1 finalists, and this colt’s $200,000 sale price reflects the legacy. Three 2024 Champions trace back to this remarkable female line.

Rovos Rail

Laser-focused and all business, this Freighttrain B colt—consigned by Solo Select—clocked the second-fastest time on Day 2. Previously a Remington Park Futurity Juvenile finalist, his connections opted to skip the final and set their sights on the Triple Crown races instead. Bred by Bird Ranch LLC and sold for $100,000 in last year’s sale, he’s proving to be worth every penny.

The Right Horses. The Right Team.

Solo Select’s rise isn’t just about flashy prices—it’s about assembling a team with the sharpest eyes in the industry. From day one, Butch Wise and Matt Witman set the tone by scouting out some of the most exceptional prospects in the country. With decades of experience and an unmatched instinct for talent, they brought horses into our program that didn’t just look the part—they performed. Their selections, backed by Solo Select’s prep and marketing, led to three All American finalists in our very first year at Ruidoso. That kind of impact doesn’t happen by accident—it’s the result of expertise, vision, and a commitment to quality from the ground up.

What's Next—Building on the Success

By placing three All American finalists from their first graduating crop, Solo Select has made one thing clear: they intend to be a force with which to be reckoned in sourcing, preparing, and selling Quarter Horse racing prospects.

It starts with elite selection—thanks to the unmatched eye of Butch Wise and Matt Witman—and is followed through with meticulous prep.

Last year, our fitting program was led by veteran horseman Dustin Price, whose decades of experience shaped an outstanding class of prospects. This year, the torch has been passed to his son, Dawson Price, who brings fresh energy, deep horsemanship, and a sharp focus to continuing that legacy of excellence.

Solo Select is headed back to the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and this year’s lineup is nothing short of stellar.

With momentum on Solo’s side, a barn full of future stars, and a team that knows how to bring out the best in every horse, this is one consignment you’ll want to circle, star, and show up early for.

Keep an eye out, because the next set of All American finalists might just walk through the Solo Select aisle.
