WHITESBORO, TEXAS – Melanie Smith and leading futurity trainer Miles Baker take the time to talk about futurity horses, including their two year old black stallion, Blackkout, who sells on Thursday, October 4th. This is a bonus episode to The Business of Horses with Solo Select.
Blackkout is sired by Highpoint Performance Horses great $6-million sire and earner of over $366,000, Winners Version. His dam, the blue hen mare RC Back In Black, won over $100,000 in her career, with the bulk of her rodeo earnings going undocumented. She was a three-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier with multiple NFR round wins to her name. RC Back In Black’s produce is stacked with 1D money earners, rodeo winners and arena-record holders. Her foals have won over $760,000 thus far, including Slick N Black (LTE $268,940) and RC Famous In Black (LTE $86,065).

The 2021 stallion is set to sell Oct. 5, 2023, in the Pink Buckle Select Sale with a Pink Buckle Stallion Slot. Since the start of Pink Buckle in 2018, Stallion Slots have become wildly sought after and have become a mark of greatness for the stallions that hold them. Foals by enrolled stallions are eligible to run for MILLIONS, making it the world's richest barrel race. This year the race is guaranteed to pay out over $4 million, a $3-million increase since the incentive’s first year.
