Pedigree and Ownership

Solo Select CEO Ty Smith initially bought Nala in utero when he purchased her dam, Select Genes' mare Chars Gun. After Nala was born, Smith sold her to Larry Rice of Flag Ranch, who had originally bred her.

Relentless PYC and Miles Baker pocket over $55,000 at the Old West Futurity

Miles Baker’s Perspective

Baker, 32, from Decatur, Texas, has ridden Nala since purchasing her early in her 2-year-old year.

"I was riding around in the warm-up arena thinking, ‘If I hit this steer in the back of the head, it’s not do or die.’ I’m thankful for the chance to run a steer for $50,000. This win has pushed my total earnings close to a quarter million this year," Baker told The Team Roping Journal.

Team Dynamics

Baker’s success was complemented by Joseph Harrison, ARHFA’s leading rider, who flawlessly handled the heeling for all of Relentless PYC’s wins in 2024, accumulating $93,211.

"When you don’t have to worry about your man behind you, it’s reassuring," Baker noted.

Next Up

Baker and Nala will head to Rock Springs, Wyoming, for the Royal Crown Aug. 13-16, where they'll aim for the $100,000 mark before the futurity finals' season kicks off.
