
LBR Hangem, ridden by Kenny Platt for Solo Select Horses, dominated the second go of the Open Classic Challenge at the 2025 NCHA Summer Spectacular. He marked a 222, the highest score of the round, pushing his composite to 442 to lead the field of 190 entries.
The 5-year-old sorrel stallion, known as “Shotty” in the barn, will return as the last draw in Thursday’s semifinals. If he advances, he’ll head to the finals on Friday before appearing again on Saturday at The American Performance Horseman, where he’ll represent Team Orange with Kenny Platt.

A total outcross on most of today’s mares - by Dual Reyish and out o f$750,000 producer Hangem High Pep , LBR Hangem has earned over $198,000 to date. His 2025 campaign has been red-hot.
“Shotty is so consistent,” said Melanie Smith of Solo Select. “I love him because he is so intense. There’s not an ounce of that ‘mechanical’ training in there. He’s a true cow horse in every sense, and he loves his job. People say that all the time, but if you watch him work a cow at all, you will see - it’s just different with him.”
