The Australian cutting horse calendar features several marquee competitions, but few are as highly anticipated as the Solo Select Spring Spectacular. Taking place from August 8–15, 2026, at White Park in Scone—widely regarded as the horse capital of Australia—this premier aged event is set to showcase elite cutting excellence.
However, the excitement surrounding this year’s NSW Aged Event extends far beyond the arena. With Solo Select stepping up as the title sponsor, the event highlights a massive, collaborative effort to elevate the Western performance horse industry on a global scale.
A Vision Beyond Borders: Solo Select and Healey Quarter Horses
Solo Select is quickly becoming a familiar presence at Australia's major cutting events, having sponsored the Australian Open Cutting Futurity earlier this year and returning to the Spring Spectacular for a second consecutive year. But for Solo Select, the goal is to be much more than just a banner on an arena wall. Driven by Melanie Smith, Solo Select envisions a worldwide force in the breeding industry, extending the reach of their premier stallion roster well beyond United States borders into Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, and heavily into Australia.
"Australia is on the opposite side of the world from us, so their breeding season is almost exactly opposite of ours — which works great for us as stallion owners," Smith explained. "It allows us to export semen on these stallions and have a second market for them."
This international growth is anchored by a powerful partnership with Australian agent Tish Healey of Healey Quarter Horses. Together, Solo Select and Healey Quarter Horses are navigating the complex logistics and regulations of international breeding and semen exportation. Their collaboration reflects a shared dedication to growing the Australian breeding scene and supporting the massive surge in cutting, campdrafting, and roping, as well as the rising adoption of ICSI down under.

Speaking on the rapid market growth, Healey notes, "It's growing exponentially fast right now." She also points out how drastically the landscape has shifted toward US genetics: "People were breeding to American studs, but it's not like it is now, where pretty much that's the dominant market."
When it comes to meeting that demand, the Solo Select roster provides Australian breeders with unparalleled options. "It's like a candy store," Healey says of the stallion lineup. "What do you want to improve on your mare? Okay — this is the one."
Innovative Sponsorship: The Stallion Service Auction
Rather than simply writing a check for event sponsorship, Melanie Smith and Solo Select orchestrated a highly successful and innovative fundraising initiative. In partnership with several Solo stallion owners, elite breeding services were donated to an exclusive Stallion Service Auction held from July 6th through 16th.
All proceeds raised from this auction were injected directly into the show’s prize pool. This creative approach generated approximately AUD $45,000 in added money across all divisions. Every dollar raised went directly back to the riders, owners, and breeders, actively fueling the growth of the Australian cutting scene.
