My Chic Hood and Tyson Benson Win SRCHA Intermediate Open Futurity
The 3-year-old daughter of Select Genes mare Shiners Tuff Chic marked a 655.5 aggregate in Fort Worth.
FORT WORTH, Texas—My Chic Hood, owned by Brooks Jobe and shown by Tyson Benson, marked a 655.5 aggregate to win the Intermediate Open Futurity at the Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association Pre Futurity.
The pair opened with a 218 in herd work before marking a 220 in rein work for a 438 two-event subtotal. A 217.5 in fence work secured the division’s highest aggregate and the championship Sunday, Aug. 9.
The 2023 sorrel mare is by Metallic Cat and out of Shiners Tuff Chic, a Select Genes mare owned by Kacey Mowery. Shiners Tuff Chic has $34,982 in earnings and is by Shiners Voodoo Dr out of My Boots Are Tuff, by Woody Be Tuff.
Shiners Tuff Chic was the 2019 Reno RCH Limited Open Futurity champion and Intermediate Open Futurity reserve champion, earning $10,000 and $12,500, respectively. She also earned money in NRCHA and regional derby, futurity, hackamore and Stallion Stakes competition. Her 34.5 AQHA performance points span cutting, working cow horse, reining and versatility ranch horse classes, and she earned an AQHA Open Performance ROM.
"Shiners Tuff Chic was a mare we brought into Select Genes early on because she’s such a special outcross. She is big, pretty and talented. We’ve been excited to see her foals start showing, and they’re proving exactly what we thought. This mare is a producer," Melanie Smith said.
Bred by Lana Corless, My Chic Hood’s SRCHA title adds an early performance credential to the producing record of a mare already proven in competition.
