Snapdragons Carries Catnaps’ Maternal Power Into The Run For A Million
The $282,268 earner arrives in Las Vegas backed by a maternal line built through Catnaps, Kittens and Starlights Liz.
LAS VEGAS—Snapdragons, the $282,268-earning son of Select Genes mare Catnaps, is expected to show with Justin Wright in The Run For A Million Cow Horse Challenge on Aug. 13-14.
The rein work is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13. Cow work follows Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at South Point Arena.
Wright and Snapdragons earned their place in the field by winning the 2026 NRCHA CINCH Stallion Stakes qualifier. It was Wright’s first time showing the stallion, and he credited Zane Davis for Snapdragons’ training.
The qualifier added another result to an established reined cow horse record. Snapdragons is an NRCHA Open Futurity Co-Reserve Champion, a two-time NRCHA Open Bridle Reserve World Champion and an NRCHA Celebration of Champions Open Derby Champion.
He also earned the NRCHA Intermediate Open Bridle Reserve World Championship, placed fifth in the NRCHA Open Stallion Stakes and holds the NRCHA Supreme Reined Cow Horse designation.
The 2017 stallion is by Gunnatrashya and out of Catnaps, whose produce record connects cutting and reined cow horse at the highest levels. Catnaps has produced $754,396 in offspring earnings after earning $79,920 during her own performance career.
Her leading performers include Snapdragons and Gingersnaps, the $219,416 earner who won the NCHA Open Derby and was named NCHA Reserve Horse of the Year.
Solo Select Horses acquired Catnaps at the 2025 NCHA Futurity Preferred Breeders Sale for the Select Genes mare program. The acquisition added a proven producer from one of the Western performance horse industry’s strongest maternal families.
Catnaps is by High Brow Cat and out of Starlights Liz, by Grays Starlight. Starlights Liz earned $31,369 and won the Gold Coast Fall Cutting Open Futurity. Current Solo Select and Select Genes records credit her with $614,414 in offspring earnings.
That influence extends through Catnaps’ full sister, Kittens.
Kittens earned $286,515 herself. As of September 2024, she had 21 foals of performance age, including 16 money-earners with combined earnings of $1,101,619.
Her leading listed offspring, Reysin Kittens, earned $523,635, became an NCHA Non-Pro Co-World Champion and entered the NCHA Hall of Fame. Kittens also produced Kittens N The King at $118,214, Creeks Rey at $77,919, Kitty Boon at $68,043, Chyna at $62,644 and Kittens Bay Boon at $61,589.
Catnaps and Kittens give Starlights Liz two major-producing daughters. Their records establish the maternal family across generations, disciplines and crosses.
Snapdragons now carries that family back into the Run For A Million arena with a proven NRCHA résumé and a qualifying win already secured with Wright.
