Before the first gate bangs, Miguel Guerrero already knows what this moment means. For years, his path and that of Solo Select's Melanie and Ty Smith have run side by side—built on trust, shared vision, and a relentless pursuit of quality.

Now, that history takes center stage as Las Tunas Performance Horses steps in as the title sponsor of the Las Tunas Performance Horses' Heading Futurity, a premier class set to showcase some of the best rope horses in the industry.

From its base in Chihuahua, Mexico, Las Tunas has become a name synonymous with respect on both sides of the border. Owned and operated by the Guerrero family, the ranch focuses on producing elite equine athletes tailored to the demands of today’s performance horse industry. Its program has earned the ranch top honors, including the 2024 International Best Breeder Award from the American Quarter Horse Association which is the AQHA’s highest recognition and proof of a breeding philosophy that blends conformation, ability, and the mindset to win at the highest levels.

Guerrero’s relationship with Solo Select goes deeper than business. He’s an owner in Time To Glo and has tapped into Select Genes to craft standout crosses—like a Woody Be Tuff  filly out of ARC Ruby Plagunia (earner of more than $207,186)—that reflects the way both programs think about pairing bloodlines for performance.

“Miguel is first-class in everything he does, so having him come on as the title sponsor of our Heading Futurity just makes sense. This will be the highest-paying four-year-old futurity to date, and Miguel has always supported events across the equine industry that are truly changing the game. He is a partner, a friend, and a visionary, and we are proud to have his brand standing side by side with ours.” — Melanie Smith

For Guerrero, the decision to support the Solo Select Futurity came naturally.

“We’ve been doing business together for many years, and I know that whatever they do is the meaning of quality. Wherever they put their hands on, it’s synonymous with success. I’m very blessed and very glad to be invited to be part of this project because I know this is the foundation for something that will last for many years. What better blessing than being part of it from the beginning?” — Miguel Guerrero

The Heading Futurity sponsorship is more than a name on an event—it’s a shared investment in the future of roping. Guerrero sees the sport’s momentum stretching far beyond U.S. arenas.

“The roping industry is growing by the minute—not only in the U.S., but also in Mexico and Canada. People now truly understand the value of genetics. Events like this, with this level of incentive, are drivers for all of us as users to keep focusing on the great efforts breeders are making to bring high-quality horses to the arena.” — Guerrero

With the Las Tunas Performance Horses Heading Futurity set to debut under the ranch's banner, both the Solo Select Futurity and Las Tunas Performance Horses are poised to leave a lasting mark on the sport: one that honors tradition, champions quality, and fuels the future of roping.

Think horses, think Las Tunas Performance Horses

The Solo Select Futurity is a premier event for 4-year-old rope horses, offering big payouts, minimal restrictions, and a straightforward entry process designed to grow the rope horse industry. Owners who have purchased a 2025 Solo Select breeding can enter their horse at the regular $1,000 rate, while those without a breeding can still compete through a $5,000 buy-in per horse, per class. Pre-entries are accepted through September 21, with late entries allowed September 22–28 for an additional $500 per horse. Riders may enter up to five horses per class, and every entry directly contributes to the futurity purse, making the event bigger and more rewarding for everyone.
