Breeding a mare usually means lining up five vendors and hoping they coordinate together correctly. Here it’s one call. We order your semen, submit your breeding contracts, and breed her. From there she carries her own foal, or we flush her and place the embryo in one of our own recipient mares. Either way, we foal her out. It all happens right here. And you don’t have to hand us the whole thing. We can do every step, just a few, or whatever you need in between.

One of the largest recipient mare herds in the world. Over 2,500 mares, managed for one job: carrying your genetics to a healthy foal.

Because the herd lives here, nothing about transfer day depends on an outside schedule. The day your mare is flushed, a synchronized recipient is standing a pasture away, matched and ready, with the lab and the veterinary team right here on site.

We can handle as much or as little of the process as you want, from a single transfer to full donor management, mare care, and foaling. Contact the office before you flush to coordinate intake and timing.

Six steps, one team, one place. Take all of them or just the ones you need.

  1. She Arrives

    Your mare gets to North Texas and we start working with her right away. Many stay through foaling or year-round; some head home once the breeding work is done.

  2. The Plan

    Before we breed, we get the details right. If your breeding contract isn't done, we help you straighten it out, and we talk through the best way to breed her for your goals.

  3. We Breed Her

    We set her up to breed her to carry her own foal, flush embryos for transfer, ICSI her, or some combination of the three, whatever your program goals call for and is best for the mare.

  4. Pregnancy Checks

    We ultrasound and monitor along the way, checking your mare and the recipient mares carrying your pregnancies until each one is confirmed and progressing.

  5. Mare Care & Foaling

    Regumate, progesterone, and monitoring, all done here if you want it. Then 24/7 monitoring during foaling gives your foal every chance at success, with real-time text updates from confirmed pregnancy to a foal on the ground.

  6. The Sale & Beyond

    Mares bred, embryos conceived, and foals born here are eligible for The Solo Select Sale. Ty and Melanie help you decide whether that sale is the best route or another market fits better. That advice is part of using our program.

Foaling and Year-Round Mare Care

Many owners choose to leave their mares with us year-round, and we have a range of accommodations to make it easy. The success of a foal, the success of a mare’s breeding season, starts long before the first day we palpate her.

So we optimize her nutrition and her care, backed by a full-time, on-site sports medicine veterinarian and reproduction veterinarians, to give your mare every chance at success.

Year-round mares at Solo Select are also exclusively eligible for the Select Genes program, which allows you to potentially cash-flow your mares throughout the year with no out-of-pocket investment from you.

That pipeline is the difference between a breeding facility and a market-maker: Solo Select has moved more than $100 million in cumulative sales, and in June 2025 sold Crosby Ray Von for $1.7 million, the highest price ever paid at public auction for a Western performance horse prospect.

When your foal is ready, we help you place it with the right trainer or market it for sale. Our ability to help you does not end at weaning.

Which breeding method is right for your mare

Fresh Flush, Carrying or ICSI

Fresh Flush

Bred here, with the embryo recovered about eight days after ovulation and transferred fresh into a recipient mare.

Best for: A mare that isn't on a pressing show schedule, one you want several foals from in a year, an aged mare, or a mare that shouldn't carry for health or age reasons.

ICSI, Fresh or Frozen

Oocytes are aspirated on site and fertilized at our partner lab. During the breeding season you can transfer embryos fresh, freeze them to preserve a mare's genetics, or do a combination from the same cycle.

Best for: Show mares that haul in and out and are back with their trainer the same day, mares that don't need to carry, mares with reproductive issues or that are tough to breed, aged mares or proven producers whose genetics you want to preserve, or stallions that are deceased or have poor-quality semen.

Carrying Her Own Foal

No transfer. She's bred here and carries her own pregnancy.

Best for: You want her in foal and headed home, or foaled out under our care.

Reproduction FAQ

How does equine embryo transfer work?

An embryo is flushed from the donor mare a few days after she is bred, then transferred into a synchronized recipient mare that carries the pregnancy to term. Solo Select manages the process start to finish: synchronization, transfer, year-round mare care, and 24/7 supervised foaling, with real-time text updates throughout.

Does my mare have to stay at Solo Select?

Only while the work requires it. Some mares are bred or flushed and head home; many stay through foaling or year-round for mare care, which is where the program does the most for you. While she is here, everything happens in-house: breeding, flushes, on-site oocyte aspiration for ICSI, transfer, and 24/7 supervised foaling.

How much does embryo transfer cost at Solo Select?

The published pricing is the recipient mare lease: for 2026, $5,000 per pregnancy for a fresh flush or thawed embryo and $6,500 for fresh ICSI, plus a $1,000 implant fee per transfer attempt. Do I have to use the full service, or can I just lease a recipient mare?

You can lease. If you run your own program, we transfer your embryo here into a leased recipient mare, and once she checks in foal at 24 days you can take her home to foal out yourself. See the recipient mare leasing page for lease pricing and contract terms.

Can I ship an embryo to Solo Select from another state?

Yes. Embryo intake runs through our recipient mare program: any vet clinic or ICSI lab, anywhere in the world, can ship us frozen embryos, fresh ICSI embryos, or fresh flush embryos. Embryos arrive by air or courier, not by highway. See the recipient mare leasing page, and contact the office before you flush to coordinate intake and timing.

What is the difference between a fresh flush, a thawed embryo transfer, and ICSI?

A fresh flush transfers a freshly recovered embryo. A thawed embryo transfer uses a frozen embryo, thawed in our on-site lab and transferred immediately. For ICSI, oocytes are aspirated on-site at the ranch and fertilized at our partner lab, GeneTech, which makes it possible to produce embryos from limited, rare, or deep-frozen semen. Solo Select performs all three.

Can my mare keep competing while I breed her through embryo transfer?

Yes. A recipient mare carries the pregnancy, not your mare. With ICSI in particular, oocyte collection does not require synchronizing the donor with the recipient herd, so your mare can stay in work.

Do you offer foaling services and year-round mare care?

Yes. Solo Select provides 24/7 supervised foaling and year-round mare care, with stalls and show-horse care, private pasture, or large pasture options. Year-round mares are exclusively eligible for the Select Genes program.

Can I send a mare that is carrying her own foal?

Yes. Reproduction services are not just embryo transfer and ICSI. Mares in foal are welcome for 24/7 supervised foaling, board, and year-round mare care, whether we bred her here or she arrives already carrying. Call the office to arrange intake.

Why does on-site frozen embryo thaw matter?

Frozen embryos are thawed in Solo Select's controlled on-site lab and transferred immediately into a recipient mare, rather than being shipped after thaw. Keeping thaw and transfer in the same lab reduces handling stress and gives total control over recipient placement.

What happens to my foal after it is born?

Foals are born under 24/7 supervised foaling and receive daily health monitoring and early handling. Foals born with us are eligible for The Solo Select Sale, and we can help place them with trainers or market them for sale. Contact the office for weaning and return logistics.

How do I book, and when should I?
