Relentless PYC & Miles Baker Dominate Royal Crown Heading by 17 Points; Win $21k in Buckeye

Writer: Melanie SmithMelanie Smith

The duo that shook up the rope horse industry in 2024 is back—and they have no plans of slowing down.

Last year, Relentless PYC, out of Select Genes Playgun daughter Chars Gun, made history as the Winningest Futurity Mare of All Time and the Richest 4-Year-Old Futurity Horse Ever. With $165,921 in earnings and some of the most prestigious championship titles under their belt, she and Miles Baker ended the season as one of the most dominant teams in futurity roping. Nala is owned by Relentless Remuda, Solo Select and Bob Tonkin.

Their winning streak didn’t stop with the new year. In their first competition since December, Miles and Nala picked up right where they left off—by dominating.

At the Royal Crown Roping 6 & Under Heading, the pair made an undeniable statement. They marked a 157.53 to take round two, then followed up with a 155.89 in round three, securing their spot as the aggregate leaders heading into the short-go. With a clutch 152.82 in the final round, they sealed the victory with a four-head total of 616.26—a staggering 17.64-point lead over second place.

With yet another major title to their name, one thing is clear: Relentless PYC and Miles Baker aren’t just here to win—they’re here to rewrite the record books.

"It's not unheard of to have a horse as good as her. It's unheard of to have a horse that stays as good as her."

That’s how Miles Baker described Relentless PYC after their performance at the Royal Crown 6 & Under Heading. In his post-win interview with Amy Wilson (listen here), Baker kept it simple: "She's a great mare. She doesn’t have it in her to screw you in any kind of way. She’s just good in the box, and I was telling a guy that he walked up and was talking about how she kind of looked and I said even when the pressure’s up and she’s nervous, she just doesn’t have it in her to try to take money out of your pocket. She’s a gamer. And I think what she’s won speaks volumes about that because it’s not unheard of to have a horse that good, but it’s pretty unheard of to have a horse stay good over the period of time that she’s been good. There’s peaks and valleys in everything but it’s been nothing but peaks for her.”

The victory added over $21,000 to Nala’s record in the average alone, with each round win paying out $1,500—pushing her lifetime earnings to $187,016. Another major futurity title is now on her ever-growing list of achievements.

Miles and Trevor Brazile bought her in January of her two-year-old year from Flag Ranch (Larry Rice). At the time, Miles was drawn to her kind eye and good build, but he had no idea just how fast and talented she would turn out to be.

"I even tried to sell her as a three-year-old," Miles admitted with a laugh. "I thought she was a great horse, and I told a few people about her. She didn't sell then, and when she got thrown in the fire at the start of her futurity year last year—and things got fast—that's when I realized just how good she was."

Relentless PYC is sired by First Prize Driver and out of Select Genes mare Chars Gun.
