The 46th Annual Cudd Quarter Horses Production & Consignment Sale grossed an impressive $1.2 million June 13, highlighted by nine Solo Select-fitted horses bringing $324,500 at the Woodward, Oklahoma event.

Solo Select served as the agent for an exceptional group of horses bred by Renee Cudd, proving once again that when intentional breeding meets dedicated fitting, the result is top dollar at the auction block.
Solo's group of nine consignments saw strong demand across the board, achieving an overall average of $36,055.
Solo Select Consignment Highlights:
Total Gross: $324,500 for 9 consignments
Average: $36,055
Top Sellers: 6 horses sold for over $30,000
There is no denying it: Solo Select just kicked off sale season with a bang.
Back-to-Back High Seller: The Darkk Side x Chars Gun Cross
For the second year in a row, the high-selling honors went to an exceptional cross: The Darkk Side x Chars Gun. Hip 44, The Darkk Smoke, commanded the room and dropped the gavel at $64,000.
This 2025 stallion is a full brother to last year’s high-selling foal.

He is sired by AQHA Open World Champion Heading Horse The Darkk Side and out of the incredible Select Genes mare, Chars Gun, who has already produced over $200,000. With eligibility for more than $400,000 in added-money incentives, The Darkk Smoke combines sought-after bloodlines with incredible arena potential, making him a premier prospect for the future.
A Crowd Favorite: The "Run-Cow" Cross
Speed is the ultimate currency on the head side of team roping, driving serious market attraction toward crosses that blend run and cow bloodlines.
Lot 56, a 2026 bay stud colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon and out of Chars Gun, captured everyone's attention and brought $44,000 as a weanling.
This colt shares the remarkable production record behind his dam—including All-Time Leading Rope Horse Futurity mare Relentless PYC—highlighting the exceptional opportunity he represents for both the arena and the breeding barn.
With proven genetics on both sides of his pedigree, Lot 56 is the perfect example of why the industry is paying a premium for elite run-cow crosses.
Chars Gun & The Power of Select Genes: Breeding for the Winner’s Circle
The results at the Cudd Quarter Horses Sale are another testament to the value of world-class maternal genetics. At the heart of these top sellers is an elite lineup of Select Genes mares, anchored by the incredible Chars Gun, a mare who continues to shape the entire roping industry.
As the dam to the All-Time Leading Rope Horse Futurity mare, Relentless PYC, and now dam to TWO high sellers in a row, her legacy is undeniable. With progeny earnings of $206,574 and ranking as the 2024 #3 Leading Dam of Rope Horses, she is the epitome of superior mare power. As Renee Cudd perfectly summarizes: “Chars Gun is wonderful. Everything she produces goes on to do something.”

Chars Gun illustrates the caliber of genetics available to breeders through this unique program. By making these elite maternal lines accessible to the public through ICSI, Solo Select’s multi-discipline, revolutionary platform gives every breeder a seat at the high-level table.
The recent $87,505 earned by Select Genes' offspring at the Gold Buckle Futurities Spring Event was another massive statement on this competitive advantage. Ultimately, these horses are true proof that strong maternal bloodlines are no longer optional; they’re essential.
15 Years Strong: The Cudd and Solo Select Partnership
The success at this year's sale is the result of a 15-year partnership built on trust, strategy, and execution between Renee Cudd and Solo Select.
“It must have been 15 years that Ty Smith helps me decide every year which stallion to breed to my mares,” Cudd shared. “Then Solo Select takes care of raising those babies for me, and they bring them to my sale or to the Western Bloodstock Sales and it never fails, they are always above the rest. Ty really knows how to breed with intention. He is such a great asset to have around when you need to decide who to breed to what. And then Solo is just a place where you can close your eyes and they will take care of everything from A to Z—from breeding to the sale, a true 360-degree operation.”
That A-to-Z process is the gold standard at Solo Select. From meticulous breeding decisions and embryo transfers to foaling and full-service sale fitting, the team handles every detail.
As Sale Fitting Manager Evan Moffitt noted on a recent podcast regarding the program's success, maximizing a horse's sale value comes down to an exact science and relentless daily dedication.
The buyers certainly notice the difference: “When those Solo horses arrive at a sale, I have to say, they are fit and they are ready. You can pick them apart from the rest of the horses,” Cudd said.
